A frequent cause of running injuries is the impact of landings, and that’s why Swiss brand On Running developed a way to soften the blow.
When your foot lands, it creates force. This energy is usually sent back into your leg – which can cause injury. To counter this, the sole of an On shoe is designed to harness the energy, then use it to boost your take-off as you drive forward.
If that sounds high-tech for a sneaker, it is. On’s special CloudTec® outsole has been shown by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology to reduce heart rates and muscle activation. This is accomplished with individual “clouds”, the loop elements that give On shoes their distinctive look. The Clouds compress both vertically and horizontally to soften landings, then rapidly expand as your foot lifts off the ground again, giving a bounce.
This also makes an On Running sole more adaptive than a single, solid outsole, because the clouds each function independently to cushion only where it’s needed.
You don’t need to be a serious runner to appreciate what On Running has to offer. If you’re a city dweller walking on concrete sidewalks all day, or you like to hike/stroll, comfort and shock management is just as important. Or maybe you just think they’ll go with your wardrobe- that’s OK too.
